Aluminium powder’s highly reactive fine particles burn fast and hot — producing the brilliant sparks and flames of fireworks and driving blasting compositions. Pyrotechnic-grade flake maximises surface area for rapid, complete combustion.

Aluminium powders are used as sensitizers in the manufacture of explosives. The different grades are processed to meet the specific requirements of explosives manufacturers. Flake aluminium powders enhance the performance of slurry explosives, particularly their sensitization characteristics.

Aluminium powder is generally reactive and requires careful handling. However, these powders can be surface-treated with fatty acids and other specialized coatings to improve their handling characteristics and stability, including when used in aqueous media across different pH conditions.
